Making innovation happen

Important to remind yourself daily of the principle that nothing is impossible. Now more than ever technology makes the unthinkable possible but big organisations have many barriers to overcome.

The resistance to change  and those people who seek the status quo can often slow down or dilute the original idea. Steve Jobs reminding you to keep confidence in that change  is vital. This is echoed by the former CEO of P&G, A.G. Lafley, who explains that great leaders need to disrupt themselves.

The challenge I notice is in how we handle that resistance, gain support for disruption and bring others on the journey.

One powerful technique I have been using recently are ethnographic studies followed by co creation. This has a major benefit of inspiring confidence, motivating action and de risking the perception of possible consequences.

However you make it happen, at the heart of this it’s important to believe that one person can make a difference and that if it was easy it would have been done before.
